These collar stays are so affordable, does that mean they are made of cheap quality?

Absolutely not. Stiff | Stays™ was borne out of a frustration of the lack of high quality collar stays available at a reasonable price. We decided to focus only on stainless steel and titanium, two respectable metal choices, and offer them at an affordable price point. We use a low carbon 316L grade of stainless steel and a 99.9% commercially pure grade of titanium. In other words, they're made from pretty darn good materials.

What is your return policy?

If you suddenly decide to get a new wardrobe consisting only of sweaters and t-shirts or you are unsatisfied with your purchase for any reason, never fear - we have a "Hassle-Free, 365-Day Replacement Guarantee." If you'd like a refund of your order, we request you notify us within 30 days. Within 30 days, just send us back the collar stays, and your refund will be processed in the same manner as your purchase, minus shipping and handling charges. Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns outside of the 30-day window, but we will be happy to replace the collar stays for you. Simply contact us and we'll send you a mailing address to return the product to. We'll send you back replacement collar stays and you'll just have to pay the standard shipping fee for us to mail you your new stays.

Will your collar stays set off metal detectors?

Nope. We are frequent travelers and have personally tested our collar stays through the security check points of airports worldwide. They have also undergone testing to ensure that they will not set off metal detectors.

What's the difference between the stainless steel and titanium collar stays?

The biggest difference between stainless steel and titanium is the type of metal and the amount it costs. Stainless steel is the ideal everyday choice for collar stays. Titanium is more expensive than stainless steel and considered a premium choice in collar stays since titanium is a precious metal and 100% hypoallergenic. Titanium is ideal for holding a very crisp collar, since titanium is stronger than steel but 45% lighter.

Why are there only two sizes? I notice that some stores carry extra long 3 inch collar stays and extra short 2 inch collar stays

Through industry research, we've found that the 2.5" and 2.75" length collar stays are the most commonly used ones. Since most shirt manufacturers design shirts using the standard collar stay pocket length, the extra quarter to a half inch (longer or shorter) from the sizes we offer are really unnecessary.

What happens if I forget to take the collar stay out and it ends up in the washer/dryer?

We did just that and found that once you retrieve the collar stays from the dryer, they'll look pretty much the same as when they entered the washer. They may be scratched, but unlike your plastic ones, they won't be warped from the heat. However, we still recommend that you take your collar stays out of your shirts before laundering them.

How do I know if I need to order the 2.5 inch or the 2.75 inch collar stays?

Our 2.5 inch collar stays are considered the standard size, since they will generally fit almost any collar stay pocket. Some menswear designers use a slightly deeper collar stay pocket, which is where our extended 2.75 inch collar stays come in handy. If you're not sure what size you need, go with a combo pack..

What is your shipping policy?

We charge a flat rate of $4.95 for shipping, regardless of how many collar stays you purchase. Our packages ship via standard first class USPS mail which means they'll be at your door anywhere from 2 to 7 business days after you submit your order. If that is not quick enough for you, and you wanted your collar stays yesterday, we also offer USPS Priority Mail for $7.95. Sometimes we turn off Priority Mail shipping when we know we are low on product or unable to process the order in 24 hours. We ship to the US and US Territories only. Sorry, we do not offer International Shipping.

I lost a collar stay. What do I do?!?

First, you pat yourself on the back knowing you did not spend a fortune on your collar stays. Then, you should email us or fill out the form, tell us your sob story, and we'll send you a new one. (Note, if you've lost BOTH collar stays, you'll have to purchase a new pair, like everyone else, through our shop).

I think I see some scratches on my collar stays. WTF?!?!

Why the face? From a tiny scratch? All of our collar stays are made of metal, and we specifically chose the grade and type of metal based on durability and attractiveness of the finishes. However, metal may scratch in transit or over time after many uses. Our collar stays won't, however, warp like plastic or rust like brass. We think scratches give our collar stays some character. But we promise, minor scratches on your collar stays will never impact their functionality. If the scratch bothers you so much that you feel scared putting it into your shirt collar, just send us a note by filling out the form below and we’ll send you a replacement collar stay. You’ll have to explain your paranoia so that we can hang it up on our wall of ‘replacement collar stay’ reasons… Trust us, we have some good ones!

Why the name Stiff | Stays?

Collar stays are called Collar Stiffeners in the UK and obviously Collar Stays in the US... so we combined the words and decided to call ourselves Stiff | Stays™. Clever huh?
